Rev. Samuel greaves was the first Greaves in Barbados. He served as Rector at St. Lucy from 1643 to 1656. Samuel was followed by 12 generations of Greaves' in Barbados and England. Perhaps the most well known Greave' were Sir William Herbert Greaves Kt. who served as Chief Justice of Barbados. His daughter Muriel (Greaves) Hanschell who was the first female MP in Barbados and was awarded the MBE for her service to the country, and William Michael Herbert Greaves who was Astronomer Royal for Scotland from 1938 to1955.
The Greaves family tree is broken down into seven parts (because of its size) and covers twelve generations
